#9 Buying Bed Frame from Nitori Japan

In Blog #8, I mentioned that I had never bought large furniture from Nitori.
And guess what? Post #9 turns out to be my first-ever experience buying large furniture from Nitori 😂
It actually feels kind of fun to have a little sequel going on hahahahaha.

After almost 5 years of sleeping on the floor, I finally decided to buy a bed frame 😭✨
I chose the cheapest wooden bed frame with storage space from Nitori.
It’s a “Online-only” product, meaning it can only be ordered online—no display model in stores.
The good part: it’s shipped directly from the factory, so free delivery to your door. Love that.

💳 A few notes about payment

• The website only accepts Japan-issued bank cards / credit cards
• Overseas cards don’t work, but you can order in-store if you bring the item number
• However, overseas cards in-store cannot be used for installment payments

If your Japanese card payment fails online, you can still choose to pay in-store,
and that way you can use installment payments—super convenient.

If you want to check how much each installment will cost, search:
“[your credit card company] + 分割払い + シミュレーション”
and you’ll find a calculator.

🚚 One more thing

Since it’s direct shipment from the factory:

• No assembly service
• They won’t collect your old bed, even if you’re willing to pay 😂

So if you have old furniture, you’ll have to deal with it yourself.
Disposing of large items in Japan can be such a hassle (personally, I think it’s super troublesome hahah😇)

🛠 Time to assemble the bed!

The website says: Easy assembly, about 1.5 hours
—— Reality: The two of us battled for almost 3 hours 😇

Nitori’s manual is clear and the parts are well labeled, but!
There is no way—absolutely no way—to tighten all the screws by hand!!!
You 100% need an electric screwdriver (電動ドライバー).
I bought a small one in advance and it was a lifesaver.

The manual says “Don’t use electric tools” in several steps,
but doing everything by hand requires insane strength.
In the end, I used the electric screwdriver on low speed little by little.
⚠️ Always use low speed, otherwise the wood might crack!

When we reached the final step to install the drawers, something went wrong—
the left side ended up crooked, and the right side wouldn’t slide in at all.
We gave up 🙃 Took it out and just shoved it in for now,
so there’s a small gap in the middle.
I’ll figure it out someday when I regain my will to live 😂

In the photos you’ll see three very tragic screwdriver bits
—those were destroyed in battle against wood and screws.
I swear they were flipping me off 😤
The next day both of my arms were sore as hell.
Let’s just call it forced strength training 💪🤣

A few days later, while changing the sheets, I discovered that
I actually drilled through one of the wooden boards 😂
Must’ve used too much power.
But it’s been a week now and the bed is still super stable!
So it should be fine… right? (self-comforting laughter)

🔧 Mini Review: Electric Screwdriver

This tiny tool is incredible:

• Can tighten screws and also drill small holes
• In Post #8 I mentioned my IKEA cabinet with wooden dowels that expand over time
• I’m planning to replace all of them with screws during the next long holiday
• I just need to buy a drill bit in the right size

Small tool, huge upgrade to the entire project—absolutely amazing ✨
